The Green Valley Chapter Military Officers Association will be sponsoring a Food for the Troops drive over Fourth of July weekend. All food donated will be presented to the 162nd Fighter Wing Arizona Air National Guard for distribution to the junior troops.

According to Barbara Gavre, Family Readiness Program Manager, troop favorites include: Chef Boyardee (ravioli, Spaghetti-O’s, Beefaroni); breakfast bars; Pop Tarts; soups (chicken noodle, vegetable beef, tomato) Hamburger Helper/Tuna Helper; peanut butter and jelly; pasta sauce; snacks (Cheez-it, Goldfish, crackers). They also like brownie and cake mixes, Jell-O, pudding cups, dried fruit, cereals. Cleaning, paper and hygiene products, diapers and pet food are also greatly appreciated.

For those who don’t have time to shop, a check made payable to the MOAA S&MA Fund will be gratefully accepted. All those writing a check will receive a written acknowledgement of the donation for tax purposes. All monetary contributions will be used to purchase turkeys for the same troops at Thanksgiving time.

There will be a large red box in the Madera Lobby starting on July 1 until evening of July 4. Donations may be left there at any time.

On the Fourth of July tickets for a 50/50 raffle will be sold in front of the clubhouse right after the flag raising ceremony until the end of the golf cart parade. Raffle tickets will also be sold starting at 1:00 p.m. until bingo starts. The winner will be drawn later that day and one does not have to be present to win.
