At the annual meeting and luncheon of the QCMGA on Nov. 19, 2019, President Shel Zatkin announced the creation of a new award to be presented annually to the Outstanding Volunteer of the year. This is the first new award created by the QCMGA Board of Directors in several years.
With a membership totaling over 300 currently, the club has been fortunate in having several men over the years dedicate considerable time and energy to enhance the club’s activities and growth. This year the first award goes to Roy Barnes who served this club for over 12 years. Roy, unfortunately passed away this summer but he will be remembered for the many years of his contributions. Roy served officially as Tournament Director for many years and set up the format for virtually all the events we play every Tuesday. He personally checked scorecards manually when we ran a ‘Skins’ game on Tuesdays.
Roy also was involved deeply in the arduous task of compiling individual scores on every hole for hundreds of scorecards that were used to set the handicap rating for each hole on the three nines at Quail Creek.
Roy also prepared all the score cards that were used for most of the three-day Member Guest Tournaments run annually.
Roy will be dearly missed by our club and this community. We were fortunate to have his wife Joyce present to accept the Volunteer Award of the Year 2019 on his behalf from President Shel Zatkin. Thank you, Roy, for a job well done.
