Who would have thought a decade ago that the TWOQC (The Women of Quail Creek) Scholarship Committee would grow into what it is today? The first year, two $1,000 scholarships were granted to senior women graduating from Waldon Grove and Sahuarita High Schools. Fast forward to 2025, and 27 scholarships were awarded totaling $94,500 to nine graduates from Rio Rico, Sahuarita, and Walden Grove High Schools; six previous recipients of high school scholarships; as well as 12 AWE (Advancing Women Through Education) scholarships granted to women over 21 resuming their education. To quote a familiar phrase, “We’ve come a long way, baby!”
To commemorate this important and happy occasion, it was decided to celebrate those who made it happen! Past Scholarship Committee members, current Scholarship Committee members, and TWOQC board members enjoyed a lovely salad luncheon followed by remarks from Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships, who provided a historical overview of the group.
This was followed by a special presentation by Deb honoring four women who helped make the committee what it is today: Suzan Bryceland and Clarice Sullivan, who co-chaired the AWE Committee; Patricia Fina Weaver, who developed and chaired the Mentorship component; and Peggy McGee, who handled all the publicity for the committee for the first six years.
The Scholarship Committee is very proud of and grateful for the accomplishments of these women!
