TWOQC hosts baby shower for National Guard

Peggy McGee

Twenty four moms to be or moms who had recently delivered their babies were treated at an over the top shower by The Women of Quail Creek. With a theme of Noah’s Ark, animals of all types graced the tables that were covered with brightly covered cloths. Each mom received a laundry basket filled to overflowing with handmade quilts, blankets, several outfits, handmade stuffed animals, knitted bibs and a host of other products. Another large tote contained diapers, wipes, nail clippers, baby toiletries, other more practical gifts and an animal rattle or puppets. More diapers and toys with animal motifs plus a bag filled with items with which the moms could pamper themselves rounded out the gifts.

In the weeks leading up to August 9, the shower committee inventoried the donations, shopped to equalize the baskets and finally assembled the gifts into baskets and totes, each marked with the moms’ names thanks to Christy Caldwell’s creativity. Sandi Beach coordinated all the decorations. Club President Peggy McGee applauded the 22 committee members who worked so hard to see that no detail to make the shower an event to remember was overlooked.

Laura Colbert, aided by Diana van Rossum, created a diaper cake in the shape of an ark. None of the diapers were visible to the moms who had to guess how many diapers were hidden in the ark. Ironically, since all the animals were in pairs it was Kimberly Hart, who had just given birth to twin girls, who won the ark by guessing there were 48 diapers hidden in the ark; there were 49.

Our thanks to the White Elephant for donating some gently used clothing for which the attendees shopped without payment. These items will ensure the moms have some outfits on hand for when their babies outgrow the smaller sizes they got at the shower. Joan Hay washed and organized over 1,000 items of clothing donated by the White Elephant.

The day after the shower one of the moms wrote, “Thank you and the wonderful ladies that put on the baby shower this weekend. I had a wonderful time, and it was so incredibly nice. Thank you and everyone who took the time to put together a wonderful baby shower for the members of the Air Wing.” And from TWOQC, thank you Quail Creek for helping to make the shower the success that it was.
