The photo exhibit Pink-Ribbon Boudoir for breast cancer survivors showcased photographs of seven survivor/warriors who won a free boudoir photo retreat in August 2022. The Post Workspaces at 7400 N. Oracle Road hosted the free Dec. 4 public display of 50 large canvases photographed by project creator and Tucson boudoir photographer Jana M. Suchy of Way Out West Creative. The event also featured food and beverage trucks and a silent auction.
“We want to raise breast cancer awareness and foster compassion for survivors embracing their new normal,” Suchy said. “Boudoir improves self-image and confidence in an emotional healing for survivors, bringing hope to others fighting and surviving the brutal impacts of breast-cancer treatment.” She said the photos are rated PG-13.
Pink-Ribbon Boudoir Survivor Kaiona Villegas said she would “absolutely” recommend boudoir to other survivors.
“When I was diagnosed, I thought ‘I’m never going to feel pretty again,’” said Villegas when seeing her photos. “I think plastic surgeons should display the photos for other patients to be inspired.”
Thanks in large part to title sponsors Silvia Kurtovic. M.D., and Raman Mahabir, M.D., of Tucson Plastic Surgery, Suchy has raised funds partnering with a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit. She created a successful Pink-Ribbon Boudoir pilot project in Montana in 2012—this is the first such event in Arizona. The project welcomes tax-deductible donations to help fund the event.
