This holiday season Quail Creek is pleased to present the Sons of Orpheus and the Tucson Boys Chorus Christmas Concert; this collaborative Christmas concert is one of the major concert repertoires performed each year by these groups and will offer both sacred and secular songs of the season.
Come hear the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus and Sons of Orpheus – The Male Choir of Tucson Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m.; ticket price is $30 in the Madera Clubhouse Crystal Ballroom.
The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus was founded in 1939 by Eduardo Caso, “the tenor of the American airwaves.” In 1945 TABC was incorporated as a non-profit educational organization and soon after began radio broadcasts and concert tours of Arizona and the Southwest. Since then they have gained fame from coast to coast, on television and ultimately across the globe, including a performance at the Vatican. Dubbed “America’s Singing Ambassadors,” they now perform under the leadership of Dr. Julian Ackerley. Dr. Ackerley became Director in 1980 and he brings to the organization his extensive teaching experience at all levels, including three degrees in music with emphasis on music education, choral direction and voice performance.
Sons of Orpheus – The Male Choir of Tucson is a not-for profit choral group created to provide opportunities for men to learn and perform an eclectic repertoire. In the fall of 1991, Artistic Director Grayson Hirst, professor of voice at the University of Arizona, founded Sons of Orpheus as a community based choral organization with the aid of a UA College of Fine Arts Facility Incentive Grant. Starting out with just a few “mini-concerts,” they soon expanded their concert touring schedule when they were invited to perform at the White House. Since then they have traveled to Mexico and to Europe on five separate tours. Their “Christmas at San Xavier” program has been played nationwide by PBS several times over the years.
