For the seventeenth consecutive time, the Ladies’ Golf Associations of Quail Creek are delighted to announce their participation in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Organization. On November 3 the Quail Creek Ladies Golf Association, the Quail Creek Lady Niners Association and the Quail Creek Lady Putters will present the Rally For The Cure – In The Saguaro Sunshine.
Susan G. Komen was a professional golfer whose sister, Nancy Brinker, promised her that she would work to end the breast cancer that took Susan’s life. Thus began what has become the largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit. Since its founding in 1982, Komen has funded more than $889 million in research and provided $1.95 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support programs serving millions of people in more than 30 countries.
Locally, from our 16 years of support, our three Quail Creek Ladies’ Golf Associations have donated more than $160,000 to this work. We have chosen to continue our support because 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed in women in the United States every year with nearly 40,300 women and an estimated 400 men dying every year. There is much more to do.
The planning committee began its meetings in late April and will celebrate on November 3 with our many survivors of breast cancer as we participate in golf events on all three 9’s of our golf courses and our big practice putting surface and enjoy a tasty luncheon in our Madera Clubhouse. Registration begins on August 8 and closes on October 24 for our Rally for the Cure – in the Saguaro Sunshine. Our rally is open to Quail Creek lady golfers and any ladies who would like to join us for lunch to help celebrate our breast cancer survivors and the strides that are being made to beat this disease.
All registration forms will be in a special wooden chest, created for the rally by three of our Woodworkers, which will be located in the Pro Shop.
