Travel Accommodation Alternatives

Joyce Shumate

Would you like to travel and explore the world with transportation and daily living expenses being your only extra cost? Then try a house sitting at your next destination. Dave and Linda Carver, Quail Creek residents, have been house sitting for six years. Their previous stayovers ranged from three days to five months, and they are planning more. At our May meeting, they will tell you what they have learned and share their knowledge of travel accommodation_Ed options and how to find accommodations.

Another option is renting a condo or home directly from the owner or through a service such as VRBO. However, do you have some concern that the rental might not live up to the description and slick pictures or, worse, the place doesn’t exist? To ease these concerns, Bruce and Pam Schroeder, QC residents, have offered to develop a database accessible to Let’s Travel Club members that list homes or condos offered for rent by other Let’s Travel Club members. The database would be searchable based on various criteria, such as location, type, and amenities, and would include links to find out more information or secure a rental. Bruce and Pam will speak at the May meeting about this project and gauge interest in whether the database would be helpful.

Learn more about these two options on Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m. by attending the Let’s Travel Club presentation in the Madera Clubhouse Crystal Ballroom. The presentation is open to all Quail Creek residents.
