The Greater Green Valley Community Emergency Response Team is once again offering its free basic training course. This year those who enroll will have more choices for their learning experience. The initial training can be taken online or in person. Those who like to study from the comfort of their homes may sign up for online training. The course, which takes about 12 hours to complete, is done at the student’s pace. It must be completed by Nov. 13.
The classroom training that will cover the same material will consist of two all-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 15.
To graduate, all students, whether they are trained online or in the classroom, must participate in a simulated disaster exercise. The exercise will be held on Nov. 16.
The in-person sessions will be held at the Santa Rita Fire District Training Center Annex, 1285 W. Camino Encanto, just east of the intersection with Camino Del Sol.
One may register for the course by going to ggvcert.com and completing the Contact Us form. In the Comments section of the form, indicate whether you want to sign up for the online or in-person training. You will receive an email reply with registration instructions.
We hope you will consider taking the basic course to learn what CERT can train you to do should you face an emergency situation. There is no charge to take the course, and you will learn skills that will help you even if you don’t decide to join our team. Those who do join will receive a CERT Emergency Kit and T-shirt at no cost. Annual dues are $20.
Sign up today—you won’t regret learning some new skills.
