The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) will once again sponsor a baby shower for military families with this year’s theme being The Tiniest Patriots. Appropriately, the shower will take place at the Air National Guard base in Tucson on May 20, Armed Forces Day.
“Our group of TWOQC volunteers are working hard on several committees sewing, discussing decoration, publicity, shopping, keeping inventory as well as seeking donations,” said Pam Rodgers, chairperson of the event. “During the event volunteers will get into the act by wearing red, white and blue.”
Already Quail Creek yoga instructor, Karen Baker, has offered a free drop-in yoga session asking only that those who attended bring a bag of diapers. As a result, Karen then donated 17 bags of diapers and $20 in fees to the shower. Thank you, Karen. The Quail Creek Veterans’ Golf Association has donated $500 to the shower fund. This generous donation will be used to purchase items for the military families that are not contributed through other gifts. Thanks go to QCVGA. TWOQC also wishes to thank donors who have contributed strollers, baby walkers, highchairs, a swing, a cradle, books for young readers and stuffed animals.
Loose coins and bills are being collected at TWOQC events in giant plastic baby bottles. The bottle funds help establish two starter baby accounts for the lucky families that win the bottles during baby shower games.
The baby shower is always in need of donations. Donations of baby wash, wipes, diapers, onesies (sizes 3 to 18 months) or clothing may be left in the box at the Madera Clubhouse or may be dropped off at Pam Rodgers’ house, 2640 Sawyer Road. Of course, checks are always welcome and can be written to TWOQC. Please indicate baby shower in the memo line of the check.
The shower expects to make 25 military families happy this year. We already have many families signed up to participate and expect that both very new mothers and expectant mothers will participate. Please help us make this year’s shower the best one yet!
