The Museum Inside a Museum—Let’s Travel Club

Joyce Shumate

The 390th Memorial Museum is a separate museum on the grounds of the Pima Air & Space Museum (PASM)  and is included with admission. The 390th Museum houses the last B-17 Flying Fortress flown by any branch of the U.S. military and displays vehicles, exhibits, and artifacts that unearth World War II, specifically the efforts of the 390th Bomb Group.

This month’s Let’s Travel Club guest speaker is Alan Chaulk, Quail Creek resident and retired pilot. He was a docent for the 390th Museum for many years and hopes to sign on as a docent for PASM in September.

The Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the world’s largest non-government-funded aviation and space museums! The museum has grown immensely over the past 40 years and has six indoor exhibit hangars (dedicated to World War II). Home to more than 150 aircraft, from historic bombers to high-tech jets, this institution is dedicated to preserving the history of flight, whether commercial, military, or even interplanetary.

After the presentation, you will be able to sign up for a private group guided tour led by Alan Chaulk. The tour will be in late September or early October for the best weather. Limited to 15 people, a second one may be added.

The Let’s Travel Club presentation is on Friday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Ocotillo and Mesquite Rooms in the Kino Center. Come to learn more about the Pima Air & Space Museum and the 390th Memorial Museum. The presentation is open to Quail Creek residents and guests. We look forward to seeing you there.
