The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) extend their deep appreciation to the many Quail Creek residents who so generously contributed to their collection for Genesis House for victims of abuse in the local area. The three-week collection period brought in much-needed supplies for the facility. The drive focused mainly on practical items like toilet paper and cleaning, laundry, and grooming products. But they also received twin sheet sets and body lotions for the ladies to pamper themselves a little. In total, TWOQC’s Community Outreach Committee, who organized the drive, turned over 779 items, with an approximate value of $7,765, to Genesis House CEO Gina Dalsing.
Genesis House, founded in 2007, provides shelter for victims escaping domestic violence/sexual assault and human trafficking situations. The nonprofit assists victims by providing needed services, including legal, financial, immigration, medical, educational, employment, transportation, and permanent housing solutions.
The “safe haven” has provided over 75,000 bed nights since its opening. The women often bring their young children with them. Over the years, the youngest resident has been two months, and the oldest 93.
The Community Outreach Committee also received $335 in monetary donations. Right before Christmas, they will ask how many are expected to be in Genesis House for the holidays and will do last-minute shopping to ensure the children receive some toys and new clothing. They will try to get a special treat for the women, too.
The community’s generosity has gone a long way to make the holidays a little brighter for women who managed to escape from an abusive environment.
