The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) extend their sincere appreciation to all who so generously contributed to the Community Outreach Committee’s collection of items needed for Sahuarita Parks & Recreation’s Summer Camp program. The variety of the donations and the generosity of the Quail Creek community were absolutely amazing. The collection exceeded our wildest expectations.

The donations were very slow coming in initially, to the point that the Outreach Committee began to wonder if they would have anything to turn over to the Parks & Recreation staff on May 20. But during the last week, donations started flowing in. It was a very heavy flow. There were several Costco-sized boxes of Ziploc bags in a variety of sizes, paper plates, cups, utensils, and napkins, as well as 30-plus packages of crayons, colored pencils, and markers, plus cotton balls and construction paper. TWOQC donated 30 plastic piggy banks that kids will be able to decorate and take home.

Recreation Specialists Esai Guerrero and Rose Kern from Sahuarita Parks & Recreation told the committee members that the children aged 5-12 years will be in camp from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will do STEM projects and other indoor/outdoor activities, including board games at the end of the day. There are eight or nine staff members plus volunteers who will work with the children.

Katelyn Prouty, Youth & Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator at Parks & Recreation, said she was absolutely amazed when she walked into her office on May 21 and saw all the donations.

Quail Creek’s generosity will help make the summer camp experience extra special this year.
