Thanks to the residents of Quail Creek for supporting the Quail Creek Fights Back Relay for Life team’s 2025 fundraising goal to raise $15,000 by the March 29 Green Valley/Sahuarita Relay for Life event. Eleven teams of individuals supported the American Cancer Society by raising $40,000 for cancer patient programs, education, advocacy, and cancer research in Arizona.
At the Opening Ceremonies at Rancho Resort, Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy welcomed the 40 survivors and caregivers and spoke about how cancer has touched the lives of so many. Eleven teams of individuals welcomed cancer survivors and caregivers with special recognition, and the survivors, wearing a survivor pendant and sash, walked behind the survivor banner while others cheered them on. The owners of The 19th Hole and Longhorn Grill generously provided a free meal at noon for the survivors and caregivers. The day included special laps for survivors of breast cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, and more. There was a meaningful lap in honor of pediatric cancer, with the children, wrapped in yellow capes, walking around the track. The dollars raised by The Heroes team will go directly to pediatric cancer programs and research through the American Cancer Society.
Thanks to the residents of Quail Creek who helped the Quail Creek Fights Back Relay team raise $15,000 by sponsoring a sign, donating dollars, delivering garage sale items for the team to sell, buying a luminaria bag in the name of someone touched by cancer, or donating canned goods to fill the luminaria bags. The canned goods were picked up by the local food bank to support those who are hungry. Donations can continue to be made for the 2025 Relay year through Aug. 31.
