The Green Valley Sahuarita Community Food Bank is struggling to meet the needs of area residents. Two weeks before Thanksgiving news began to spread that the shelves of the local food bank were empty. Three days before Thanksgiving the lines of people coming to the food bank to receive food boxes were out the door and cars lined the streets outside. Most of the cars held even more people coming to receive food and still the shelves held barely enough to meet the needs.
The Women of Quail Creek are sponsoring Stuff the Truck for Christmas to help meet the needs of hungry families in the greater Green Valley area. Saturday, December 17, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., volunteers from TWOQC and the Joint Food Banks will accept food and monetary donations in the Madera Clubhouse parking lot (west side). Donors simply need to drive through and volunteers will unload and accept your contribution.
The food bank is in need of:
Non-perishable foods
Peanut butter
Cereal/granola bars
Canned tomato products
Canned vegetables or fruits
Rice/pasta
Beans
Canned meats
Canned soups
Baby food (cereal only)
Perishable foods (such as turkeys) must be frozen at time of donation.
Hygiene items such as shampoo or diapers (for baby or adult)
Household products such as dish soap and laundry detergent
Monetary donations are very much appreciated. Each $9 donation gives one family a meal. Remember, all donations are tax deductible and Arizona residents contributing cash donations may qualify for an Arizona tax credit.
