Minnesota Club – Fun and fundraising
Kathleen McLaughlin
On February 9 the Minnesota Club of Quail Creek gathered at the Madera Clubhouse for their annual dinner. Billed as an opportunity to mix and mingle, the group was grateful to be in the unseasonably warm weather in Quail Creek rather than the nine degree temperature in Minnesota.
The dinner attracted ninety guests who had ties to Minnesota, making it the largest gathering in the club’s history. Following dinner, John Gunter played his banjo and led the group in singing several songs including an enthusiastic rendition of the Minnesota Rouser. Mary Litfin challenged the members with a Minnesota trivia quiz and the winning table received Minnesota themed prizes.
Demonstrating the trait known as “Minnesota Nice,” guests recognized that not everyone in Green Valley would be enjoying a wonderful dinner that night so they generously contributed $385 to the Community Food Bank. The Food Bank leverages cash gifts and is able to provide $9 worth of food for every dollar contributed, resulting in $3,465 purchasing power from the $385 gift.
All Quail Creek residents with Minnesota roots or life experiences are encouraged to join the Minnesota Club. If you are interested in participating in future activities of the club, please send an email to [email protected]. There are no dues, agendas, minutes or attendance requirements – just the desire to have fun with other Minnesotans.
