The Silver Hat is Green Valley’s first and only fine art gallery, located at 1910 North La Canada Road (at the edge of Sahuarita and Green Valley). The gallery displays the art of 23 artists, many from the Southwest. Ten of those artists show jewelry, ten are two-dimensional and several are bronze, pottery, glass and intarsia. There is a variety of gift-art in the gallery from bars of soap to western porcelain with cowgirls – all made by artists from around the country.
Artists are selected by a jury whose members have a variety of artistic experience and education. Each juror has the first online review of art that is close to their own area of expertise. All art is reviewed by jurors online.
Jurors are not known to each other and report only to the gallery’s owner, Valerie St. John.
In November, ten of the gallery’s artists painted and made jewelry in the gallery’s front courtyard in a two day show and had so much fun that they elected to make it an annual November event. In addition, next month the gallery is presenting artist David DeVary for a two day one man show and reception, March 20 and 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. The public is invited to come and meet David; he will be painting in the courtyard (inside the gallery in case of inclement weather).
