Over 180 ladies were greeted with the sounds of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, played by pianist Cyndy Gierada, as they entered the ballroom in the Madera Clubhouse on January 31. Rainbows hung from chandeliers. The tables were decorated with hurricane lamp vases filled with fluffy clouds of batting, a rainbow coming out of the clouds and curly ribbon in rainbow colors cascading down the sides. Cloth napkins in various hues complemented the rainbow theme. The event, co-sponsored by The Women of Quail Creek and the Quail Creek Fights Back Relay for Life team, was held to raise much needed funds for cancer research programs to support those being treated for cancer, education and advocacy.
Cancer survivors were asked to stand while the audience sang Happy Birthday to celebrate more cancer survivor birthdays.
Ten Quail Creek residents modeled 30 outfits from Rose’s Fashions located in the Continental Plaza. The style show featured wash-n-wear bright, colorful sports and country club casual outfits. At the end of the show, Rose’s Fashions owner, Leslie McBride, gave tips on selecting slacks for all figure types.
In addition to the fashion show, tickets were sold for over 50 raffle baskets containing items donated by Quail Creek residents and local merchants plus a 50-50 raffle.
The Somewhere Over the Rainbow—There is a Cure event raised almost $4400 for the American Cancer Society and Quail Creek Fights Back Relay for Life team. The public is invited to the Relay for Life that takes place on March 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Anamax Park in Sahuarita.
