The food truck craze swept through Quail Creek on Sunday afternoon, May 31 at Sip and Savor Sunday at Quail Creek – A Food Truck Extravaganza! The event was ushered in with great enthusiasm and a much larger attendance than anticipated (817 reservations). Some say it is Quail Creek’s largest event. Residents had the opportunity to enjoy a carefree Sunday afternoon dinner in a very relaxed atmosphere, visit with neighbors and make new friends.
Attendees were treated to all sorts of delicious savory and sweet cuisine possibilities including Texas BBQ, Italian Pizza, German, Peruvian Fusion, Thai, Mexican, American, Sonoran hot dogs, all sorts of delicious pastries and ice cream. Imagine all of this just a few blocks from home! Due to good food and hardy appetites, a few trucks ran out of their most popular items. The good news is that all food truck owners did well financially. Because of the hot day, the Quail Creek Food and Beverage team was busy serving cold drinks, water, beer, wine and cocktails. Thank goodness for air conditioning in the Madera Clubhouse!
Quail Creek residents were generous in purchasing Walden Grove High School Grad Night Project raffle tickets with the students collecting a total of $964. Funds support a lock down celebration for seniors to keep them safe on graduation night. Thanks to local businesses, fundraisers and donations a car and other prizes are given away; students have all sorts of food and beverages and lots to do (a DJ, Karaoke, hypnotist, fortune teller, casino, pool tables, Velcro wall, obstacle course, jousting and photo booth). Because the winner of the 50/50 raffle did not come forward, the Unit Representative Committee decided the $387 would be donated to the Grad Night Project. A Quail Creek resident, Karen Swearingen, won the Green Valley Pecan Company Gift Basket worth over $100.
The Quail Creek Unit Representative Committee’s visionary approach and support for this event made it possible. Special thanks to Ron Darrah and the Quail Creek Board for supporting this event and the Grad Night Project. The Food Truck Event Team of Susan Pace, Ron Poedtke and John Agner along with Unit Rep Chairperson Margaret Blumberg did a marvelous job. The assistance provided by Mike Taylor, Chef Aris, Epi Torres, Jim Gertz and all of their staff was outstanding. Each and everyone involved went above and beyond the call of duty. And last, but certainly not least, thanks to Quail Creek residents for their support and making Sip and Savor Sunday at Quail Creek so successful! Everyone is looking forward to a repeat performance when winter residents return.
