Valley Assistance Services (VAS) has been caring for their neighbors in Sahuarita, Green Valley, Amado, Tubac, Tumacacori, Carmen and Arivaca for almost 50 years. Their newest program is Neighbors AIM, (Awareness in Memory Loss). Thanks to funding from the Freeport-McMoran Foundation, Neighbors AIM is designed to support those with early stage dementia and memory loss and their spouse, loved ones, family, children, friends and neighbors who serve as caregivers. They provide this support by offering creative events in the areas of painting/art or music.
To make this program viable, they are looking for artists or musicians who are willing to give a few hours a month to work with those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
At VAS, the experienced professional RN staff works with the individual and their family when they need support and health education. With over 75 years of experience as medical professionals, the RN staff assesses, educates and assists the individual, family, loved ones, friends and neighbors. Because support is priority with this health challenge, those with early stage dementia will be able to participate in creative activities like painting, drawing and music, while their loved ones meet for support and education, facilitated by a counselor and RN.
If you have artistic or musical talents and think you would like to help those suffering from memory loss, please contact Chris Erickson at 520-625-5966 for more information.
