For eight days in March, the Quail Creek RV Club took a trip to two different cities in California. Temecula is an old town a little north of San Diego, just inland from the coast. It’s a lush wine & avocado growing region. Pechanga Casino has a beautiful RV resort, with a shuttle service, golf, gambling, etc. We definitely enjoyed one day of wine tasting at four of the local wineries. Another day of lunch and shopping in Old Town Temecula. And, a group dinner at a delicious Thai restaurant ended our stay in Temecula.
The group then traveled about 70 miles to the small desert town of Borrego Springs, in the middle of the Anza Borrego State Park. We were hoping to catch the spring wildflower bloom there. Unfortunately, the bloom was earlier than normal, so we missed seeing the flowers. However, another fascinating thing to always see there, is the Galleta Meadows Sky Art sculptures spread over many miles across the desert. It is a collection of over 130 massive metal sculptures that were commissioned by a local landowner. And, some made a short trip up to Julian, a cute little town in the mountains, known for its pies!
There are RV Club trips planned in the future, including Catalina State Park in October, Dead Horse State Park in February, and Lost Dutchman State Park in April. If you have an RV, consider checking out the club. It’s an informal and friendly group. Our meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, at 4:30 p.m., from September to May.
