Resident Artist to Hold Art Show February 8–April 7

Andrea Folts

An art show featuring Andrea Folts will be at Posada Java Café in Green Valley. The show runs from Feb. 8 through April 7.

Andrea is known for her whimsical style and bold, intense use of color. She has a deep compassion for animals and nature and is therefore drawn to doing pet portraits, landscapes, animals, and flowers. She says she finds joy in painting the creatures she loves in bright, bold colors which she sees in her mind’s eye.

She has worked in different mediums but finds she enjoys acrylics most. She is self-taught, having improved from practice and experience. She began her work drawing with pencil, seeking perfection until discovering she would only feel accomplished by finding a style of her own.

While living in Mexico, she taught herself to paint. The Mayans introduced her to an innocent, childlike attitude expressed in their art form. This gave her permission to discover those qualities in herself. That art was not about perfection, but about taking risks, enjoying the process, and remaining positive. By letting go, she experimented, looking to find those qualities in herself. Over the years, her style has changed; however, she says that nature and animals will forever be her passion.

“I have been asked my opinion of what art is. It is my belief that art is about imagination and creativity. As the viewer, that which moves you. It is my hope that my art will move you in some way and that you will enjoy the color and the imagination involved in creating each piece.”
