The crew enjoying pizza and soda after a job well done!
In February, the Felix Landscaping crew focused on restoring the large catch basin near the Administration building. The team concentrated on thinning vegetation that had grown thick over time, obscuring many of the basin’s original features. By clearing the area, crews were able to fully re-expose the water spout between the sales office and Quail #3 and return the basin to the clean, open layout intended in its initial design. If you’re driving by, the cleared area is across from E. Apache Springs Lane in Unit 9.
A key factor in the project’s efficiency was the use of an on-site wood chipper. Instead of hauling away debris—a process that typically adds both time and disposal costs—the team was able to chip and repurpose the material directly at the site. This approach allowed the restoration to be completed within a week while reducing overall labor and transportation expenses.
With the basin now restored, regular maintenance will be required to preserve its appearance and function. Crews will avoid applying pre-emergent herbicides in this area. Instead, they plan to use weed-whacking techniques to manage growth naturally and encourage the spread of native grasses.
The refreshed basin not only enhances the landscape but also improves stormwater flow and supports a healthier, more natural environment along Quail Crossing Boulevard.
