Skip Jones and Alphie Smith
With snowbirds gone, the slower summer season in Quail Creek has begun. However, 12 members of the Quail Creek Billiards Club (QCBC) still showed up to play the game of 8-ball on June 7 in the latest in-house tournament. It was held in the Billiards Room at the Madera clubhouse. The tournament was facilitated by Skip Jones, a QCBC member and active member on the QCBC Board of Directors.
The results were as follows: David Sypkens, first; Lenny Friedman, second; and Bob Coulter, third. The format of the tournament was double-elimination, with the winner of the one-loss bracket playing the winner of the winner’s bracket in the final match.
As the tournament progressed, Sypkens defeated Coulter to become the final player of the winner’s bracket. Coulter, with his first loss, met Friedman who had fought his way through the one-loss side. Friedman defeated Coulter in a challenging, well-played match.
Friedman then met Sypkens for the final match—the best of three out of five games. Sypkens continued his winning streak and won the title. Congratulations to the top three players and all the games they played.
