Valley Assistance Services (VAS) is one of 300 organizations nation-wide that will be participating in the Purple Purse Challenge sponsored by The Allstate Foundation. A 501(c)(3) charity, VAS supports families and seniors in Green Valley, Sahuarita, Amado and Tubac.
The purpose of the Purple Purse Challenge is to raise funds for victims of domestic violence and their families. This is a “friendly” fundraising campaign where VAS can compete with organizations of their size to raise the most money between October 2 and 31. Valley Assistance Services has set a goal of $10,000 for this challenge. To donate please go to https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/valleyassistanceservices-purplepurse2018.
Every day at VAS, women have asked for emotional support, workforce training and housing assistance so that they can be in a home free of domestic violence. Many of these women do not want to go to a shelter but would rather build roots in a community that supports their families.
Valley Assistance Services will be at the Quail Creek Health Fair on October 19 and will display the purple purse that one can bid on. There are only 300 purses of this kind in the entire country.
Valley Assistance Services hopes that members of the community will help them reach their goal and perhaps win a prize to ensure they can continue to provide necessary services to those in need throughout the next year. VAS needs all of us to rally behind the cause of financial empowerment for domestic violence survivors and their children.
