The Photo Club of Quail Creek continued with its monthly members’ contest with September having a theme of What’s Cooking. Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject did not draw as many entries as previous contests, in part because a number of club members were traveling during the month. But all of the photos were quite good. We had ten submitted photos, all of which can be seen on our Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/129343350@N08/sets/72157672234063097.
Steve Piepmeier won first place with his photo Lotta Fun Being a Pop Star. Steve commented, “The theme for the PCQC for September was What’s Cooking? Last September my two friends and I celebrated our 65th birthdays together. What was cooking for our celebration was this pecan pie using fresh Arizona pecans from the largest irrigated pecan orchard in the world. Our colorful display came from the local dollar store. We sure did have a “whole lotta fun!” Steve shot this with a Canon Powershot, focal length of 4.5 mm, 1/30 sec at f/3.5, ISO 160.
Rick Johnson won second place with his photo What’s Going to be Cooking. Rick commented, “My shot was just a pot of boiling water. It was meant to make one wonder what was going into it. I took the photo in my kitchen on the stove top. I just looked at it and thought, this should be the photo to take. By the way, pasta was going into that pot. My camera is the Nikon D80, and the photo was at a focal length of 36 mm, f/5.3, 1/60th sec, ISO 200.”
The photo Bean Pot by Doug Mutter placed third. Doug commented, “We were in Firestone, Colorado this summer visiting family. They smoked ribs and pulled pork and had this big pot of baked beans that looked yummy (and was when in my mouth!), so I thought it made a good food photo.” Doug used a Nikon D3400 to capture this. The photo was shot at 1/125 sec, f/4.5, ISO 1600, focal length of 34 mm.
