Paper Flowers Handmade in Janet Rumford’s Creative Casita!

“It all started when we bought a new coffee maker that used different filters than what I had before,” said Janet Rumford.

What to do with a pile of old coffee filters? “I dyed them different colors with diluted acrylic paint.” And the result? Paper flowers made of old coffee filters, of all things! The stems? Skewers lightly painted green. The leaves? Green construction paper, of course.

And that’s how a new paper flower making class was created by Janet for the intrepid crafters of The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC)!

So, on a beautiful afternoon in Green Valley, Stephanie Reynolds, Gay Hinshaw, and Christy Caldwell gathered in Janet’s creative casita to test drive this new class. By then, Janet had had plenty of practice: “The roses use smaller trimmed filters, layer after layer placed into the bottom of a paper cup with the bottom cut out. Seven layers in all—lightly glued. Turn the cup and lightly pull the rose out!” Then, oohs and aahs all around!

This new class certainly looks like a winner, so if you are a member of TWOQC, be sure to keep an eye out for the next class and sign up right away. Not a member? This is a great time to join and find out about this and all the other great activities available to TWOQC members.
