Painting Club fun

The Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club was busy this summer. They enjoyed acrylics classes by Susan Branch, an abstract workshop by Joyce Finn, time in open studio sessions and pastel and oil workshops on Wednesday mornings. They took advantage of the second full moon in July with an evening foray into the Sonoran desert to paint by the light of the blue moon. And members also enjoyed Friday morning gatherings for a show and tell of their paintings.

The club is also looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Monthly meetings will include painting demonstrations, lectures and time for artists to show and talk about their work. In addition, each month the work of a member will be featured as Artist of the Month. Members are welcome to come in and work on their painting projects during open studio periods on Monday afternoons, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and all day on Fridays – even if a class is being held.

A brand new catalog of classes and events for the fall, winter and spring will be released the first week of September and will be emailed to members and available on the website. It will give details of all of the classes, information about teachers and what you need to sign up.

Beginning the second week of October and repeating the second week of January, the club will hold come and try workshops where members can experiment with a new painting medium including watercolor, pastel, oil, drawing and acrylics. If the workshops spur their interest, members can enroll in classes taught by local artists in each of these mediums. In February a new class in colored pencil will be added.

A portrait and figure study group will begin meeting on Monday evenings in October. The club is looking for models—-fully clothed—-to sit for the group.

In addition, club members will once again enjoy art appreciation excursions with visits to local area art galleries.

Lastly, members will have the opportunity to attend workshops with noted visiting artists including:

* Australian artist Amanda Harris will teach a one day workshop on acrylic and collage in January.

* Nationally renowned artist Joye Moon will do a two day workshop on watercolor textures in March.

Art Club membership renewals begin soon. Members who join in October, November or December will be signed up for all of the club’s activities through 2016. Membership forms are available at the Quail Creek Clubhouse. Renewal forms will be emailed to members in September. Please visit the Art Club’s website at qcfapc.wordpress.com.
