Nurses Learn to Grow and Bend

Janine Baxter

April brought two events for the Nurses of Quail Creek. On April 2 we visited the Master Gardeners at the University of Arizona’s Pima County Cooperative Extension Office. QC resident and Master Gardener Jeff McCune led a tour and shared gardening tips for our desert climate. Now we know about growing those pesky tomatoes.

Then on April 15 nine nurses were welcomed into the beautiful surroundings of the Yurt in the woods at Santa Rita. Instructor Jennifer Rischaard led the group through a beginner’s yoga session, which included breathing exercises. “Being kind and gentle to our bodies” was the theme, and yet we were accepting of uncomfortable positions that we were not necessarily used to. We were all better women after all was said and done. Someone was even heard commenting, “This was way fun.” A coffee break and breakfast items were our rewards at La Posada Java on our way back home.

In May the nurses will be sharing in a green salad potluck and learning and discussing the subject of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause. Our guest will be Joy Bulger-Beck, M.D., who works in Internal Medicine at Banner Health. She is a certified menopause practitioner. She also is employed by the University of Arizona as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and as the Director of Transition to Residency Bootcamp.

We will meet on Tuesday, May 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1486 E. Dahlia Drive. The hostess will be Janine Baxter.

As always, we want to make sure to invite all nurses in the Quail Creek community to join us. We are always welcoming new members. There are no membership fees. We typically meet once a month, and nurses can participate in any and all activities that are of interest to them.
