The Photo Club of Quail Creek (PCQC) continued with its monthly members’ contest, with November having the topic of “Cool Car.” Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last year. This subject was an average one for the members and drew 20 entries. All the photos can be seen on our Flickr site tinyurl.com/y54jrj3x.
Tom Cadwalader won first place with his photo Stude. Tom commented, “This past October we were exploring the Palm Springs and Palm Desert areas of Southeastern California. We found our way to the Palm Springs Air Museum late Friday afternoon and found they were setting up for a car show that was to be held the next day. There were several cars on the tarmac and in the hangers, but I was especially interested in this Studebaker parked alongside the F-14 fighter jet. Being a former Studebaker Hawk owner and my wife being the daughter of a former Studebaker dealer was a big draw. The car is pretty rare. It’s a 1955 Studebaker President Speedster. This particular model was only available in 1955.
“I made images from several different perspectives and settled on this one to enter. I really liked the Contrast in Transportation Modes demonstrated by the Speedster and F-14. Olympus OM-1 fitted with an Olympus M 12-100 zoom at 15mm. 1/250 sec @ f/8.0 iso 200.”
Shari Rogers took second place with her photo International Truck. Shari commented, “We were in Breckenridge, Colo., this past May and did a mine tour with Country Boy Mine Tours. There were many abandoned items all around the mine and area. It was an interesting place to photograph. This old truck was one item I fell in love with and did a few snaps. When I saw the topic for the monthly contest, I knew I had to use it. I thought it was perfect for the topic.” Shari used a Nikon D500, 27 mm focal length, 1/200 sec at f /7.1, and did her post-processing in Lightroom.
The photo Classic Convertible for Sale, by Larry Hudson, placed third. Larry said, “My photo was taken on July 4th on the road between Silver City, N.M., and the Gila Wilderness. The vehicle caught my eye in a field just off the road. Obviously, the owner was very proud of the rusty patina.” Larry used his iPhone 11 Pro Max 1/1050 sec at f/2.4. Global tonal edits were made in Adobe Lightroom.
