Musical Instrument Museum and Organ Stop Pizza

Joyce Shumate

Join Let’s Travel Club on an incredible day trip to Phoenix/Mesa on Thursday, Nov. 14. Visit the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM), the largest museum of its type in the world, housing a collection of over 15,000 instruments, followed by dinner at the one-of-a-kind Organ Stop Pizza where you can enjoy Italian fare and be entertained by its Mighty Wurlitzer!

Throughout the MIM, you can explore how music has shaped cultures, defined geographic identities, and marked milestones through history while holding the unique ability to unify people from every corner of the globe. Musical instruments are windows into human life. They help us create individual and shared group experiences. Instruments also reveal the ingenuity of the planet’s people. There truly is nothing else like music! Without it, the soul would have no language.

Arriving at approximately 10:30 a.m., Let’s Travel Club has arranged a one-hour VIP Tour of the MIM. On our behind-the-scenes tour with a museum guide, we will discover how exhibits are created, go backstage to the 300-seat MIM Music Theater, see what kind of storage MIM needs for its diverse collection, and more.

In addition, a one-of-a-kind special exhibition, “Stradivarius: Origins and Legacy of the Greatest Violin Maker,” will be on display during our visit. This exhibition requires an additional ticket (not included) that you may purchase for $7 upon entry to the MIM.

We will have plenty of time to explore this excellent musical museum independently.

The MIM has two dining options: Beats Coffee Bar (open until 5 p.m.) serves specialty roasted coffees and tea drinks, pastries and other breakfast offerings, sandwiches, and soups. The award-winning Café Allegro (open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) offers a rotating menu of delicious global cuisine for lunch. Choose from various fresh entrées showcasing local produce and flavors worldwide.

We depart MIM at 3:30 p.m. for dinner at Organ Stop Pizza and a fun experience!

Opening its doors in 1975, Organ Stop Pizza houses a Wurlitzer organ from the Denver Theater in Denver, Colo. In its new location at Organ Stop Pizza, the Mighty Wurlitzer has come to be known as the biggest and best in the world, as attested to by many of the world’s finest theater organists. No credit cards—only cash or checks.

The $110 per person for our day trip includes transportation via a Gray Line coach bus or private tour company (depending on how many sign up) and admission to the MIM, including a one-hour private VIP Tour. The cost of food is not included! You may bring water and snacks for the trip. We will meet our tour bus at the Madera clubhouse parking lot. We will depart Quail Creek promptly at 8 a.m. and arrive back at Quail Creek at approximately 8:30 p.m.

RSVP and submit payment by Oct. 13. You may place your check for $110, made payable to Joyce Shumate, in the box by my front door (2431 E. Lost Ranch Trail). If you use Zelle, use [email protected] or 520-990-3536.
