MOAA Luncheon to Discuss Old Tucson Studios

Peggy McGee

The Green Valley Chapter Military Officers Association will be hosting a luncheon on Jan. 15 in the Madera Clubhouse Ballroom. The social period starts at 11:30 a.m. with lunch being served at noon. The speaker has now confirmed.

Marty Freese, Western Movie Historian from Old Tucson Studios (OTS), will be the presenter. Also an actor and a tour guide at the Studios, Marty will talk about the many films that have been made over the years in Southern AZ to include a documentary currently in production at OTS. Having worked at OTS for the past 19 years, Marty has seen many changes in film making over the years. He will bring some film clips of early Westerns made in the southern Arizona area including one from the 1930s that was filmed in what we now know as Green Valley.

The luncheon will feature tequila lime chicken, a cilantro, lime, and tequila marinated chicken breast (please note that the alcohol completely evaporates during the cooking process), topped with a roasted corn cream sauce, green beans, and a garlic and herb rice pilaf. Dessert will be a slice of key lime pie. Cost is $20. Vegetarian meal available by request. While the bar will not be open, wine, by the glass or bottle, and beer will be available for purchase.

MOAA members include all currently serving, retired, former, current, National Guard and Reserve, and Public Health officers.

Reservations may be made by contacting Quail Creek resident Phil Lamb at 520-771-6098 or 503-730-3664.
