The Green Valley Chapter of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) Auxiliary held its fourth annual baby shower for the wives of servicemen who are deployed, soon to be deployed or have just returned from deployment. This year’s event was held to support the wives of service members of the 162nd Fighter Wing, Tucson Air National Guard.
Not only did the Auxiliary and the MOAA members open their hearts and their wallets, but help came from all around the community. The Veterans Golf Club of Quail Creek donated $300. Not to be outdone, the Quail Creek Quilt Covey provided twelve beautiful baby quilts. The Knit Wits (a group of MOAA ladies) made knitted blankets and hats as well. A number of individuals donated everything from baby clothes, receiving blankets, toys, etc. to beautifully hand knitted and crocheted blankets.
Thirteen soon to be mothers were honored. Each received a large plastic storage container filled with essentials and a number of nice to have items. Additionally a $25 Target gift card was presented to each attendee. There were games and a number of raffles – all with donated prizes. A luncheon consisting of croissant sandwiches, roll ups, fresh fruit salad, cupcakes and a drink was provided.
The Auxiliary members who planned and participated in this annual event were Betty Atwater, Barbara Brown, Betty Deardorf, Gisela Dolny, Jackie Dow, Judy Knox, Fran Labossiere, Lynda Linker and Sharon Rychner. This event required months of planning, organizing and fund raising but in the end the Auxiliary ladies felt it was well worth the effort just to see the happy and grateful mothers’ expressions during this event.
