Perhaps the year-round residents will remember the 4th of July flag raising ceremony when members of the Green Valley Chapter, Military Officers of America, sold 50/50 raffle tickets and collected donations for its annual Food for the Troops collection. The positive response from the Quail Creek community that day, coupled with approval of a grant request submitted by Quail Creek resident Ken Cottrill, enabled the Chapter to donate 20 $50 gift cards to three different Air Force units. The cards for the Davis-Monthan commissary were presented just in time for the junior airmen to buy a turkey and all the trimmings needed for a festive meal.

Previously, the gift cards had only been given to the 162nd Wing, Arizona Air National Guard, but this year, because of the generosity of residents, two Reserve units, the 943d Rescue Group and 924th Fighter Group, were also recipients of gift cards.
