The Photography Club of Quail Creek recently announced the winners of the March photography contest, which responded to the topic of “In the Kitchen.”
Steve Piepmeier won first place with his image of Tohono O’odham people cooking at ramadas in front of the original outdoor kitchens at San Xavier Mission. Steve said that the photo was prompted when a visitor asked the cooks, “Do you have any good food here?” Steve responded, “They have great food here!” He noted the wonderful smile as the cook dropped her fry bread into the lard. Steve captured the image with his Panasonic DC-ZS200, which he says is “always on the hip!” The lens was 34.1 mm, aperture f/5.1, shutter 1/320 second, ISO 200, and no flash.
Janet Wegner won second place with her image of recyclable plastic containers in the kitchen sink. Janet said, “When the containers are emptied, we rinse or clean them and put them in the sink to dry. On a whim, I took the picture of the sink.” She captured the image with a Samsung SM-S908U, 6.4 mm lens, f/1.8, 1/60 second, ISO 125, and no flash.
Shari Rodgers, who won third place, said, “Most of the things in my kitchen are boring. So, I just took a picture of my favorite thing: my kitchen witch. She is kinda interesting, and the lighting was good.” Shari captured the image with a Nikon D500, 65 mm lens, f/5.6, 1/100 second, ISO 1100 and no flash.
