Let’s Travel Club Explores Northern Arizona

Liz Ashby

In May, 24 members of the Let’s Travel Club took a five-day guided tour to see the sights of Northern Arizona. After our pick-up on the first day, we headed for Sedona, visiting the iconic sights in the area. After lunch, there was the option for a guided hike or an off-road Pink Jeep Tour. Day two took the group to the Navajo Bridge, Lee’s Ferry, the Vermillion Cliffs, and Glen Canyon Dam before arriving at our hotel on Lake Powell, which had spectacular views.

The following day was the highlight of the trip. We began with a visit to Horseshoe Bend, a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River 1,000 feet below the viewpoint from the cliffs above. Next was a visit to Lower Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon with stunning red rock formations and a serene atmosphere, considered a bucket list item by many. The group descended 75 feet into the canyon via a series of steep stairs and ladders. Traversing through the narrow canyon for a mile, there were endless photo ops to capture the light and beauty. In the afternoon we enjoyed a guided cruise on the lake through the beautiful Navajo Canyon, with walls towering 600 feet above the water.

On day four, we traveled to the Arizona-Utah border to visit Monument Valley, known for its sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 feet above the valley floor.

Our final day came too quickly. We headed for home, stopping en route in the Verde Valley for lunch. Half the group opted to eat in Cottonwood and explore the shops in the quaint downtown. The others had a delicious lunch and enjoyed relaxing at Page Spring Cellars winery.

On the calendar for future trips is an incredible trip to India in March of 2025, which will coincide with the Holi Festival, and a 2025 trip is also in the works for Italy.
