Lazy, Crazy, Hazy Days of Summer … Sort of

Quail Creek Computer Club Stays Busy this Summer

I’m not sure about “lazy” and “hazy,” but this summer, the Quail Creek Computer Club has been exceptionally busy, living up to its mission of providing crucial tech assistance and education to its members. The club, which is run entirely by dedicated volunteers, has seen a significant increase in demand for its services, particularly with the upcoming end-of-life date for Windows 10.

Preparing for the End of Windows 10 Support

With Microsoft ending free support and updates for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 2025, many members have sought help from the club’s volunteers. The club has been actively encouraging our year-round residents to bring in their Windows 10 computers for an upgrade evaluation in an effort to “beat the rush” of our part-time resident return this fall. Volunteers are helping members determine if their machines are eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11. For computers that don’t meet the requirements of Windows 11, the club’s experts are available to discuss alternative options.

A Summer of Service

The Quail Creek Computer Club’s services are more in demand than ever. Data from June and July highlights just how busy the volunteers have been:

• Open Lab visits increased by a remarkable 61% compared to the same period last year.

• Volunteers dedicated 314 hours of their time assisting members in the Open Labs during the months of June and July.

• Since the beginning of the year, volunteers have contributed a total of 1,286 hours of service through July alone!

The club’s volunteers are not just helpful—they’re also highly experienced. The club’s Open Labs are staffed by numerous experienced, college-degreed individuals. At any time, you will find the Open Lab staffed with volunteers who have a combined experience of over 100 years in various IT-related fields. This deep well of knowledge ensures that club members receive expert advice and solutions for all their technical issues. Not a member yet? Stop by our Open Labs anytime with your questions. Hours of operation are Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon, and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., with Thursday being our least-busy session.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
