This was our sixth year of hosting the Junior Tournament. The tournament consists of 36 Continental Middle School students and 36 Quail Creek Lady Niners. The students have to earn the right to participate in the tournament by written golf test, effort during their golf classes, school behavior, attendance and school grades. The students are very competitive for the 36 slots.
The tournament is a Scramble, consisting of two Lady Niners, one female student and one male student. While on the course the ladies help the students with rules, course management and encouragement. In many cases this is the first time students have ever been on a golf course. The goal behind the event is fun, an opportunity to play on a golf course and to develop an interest in the game.
Each student was given a Goody Bag before play with items they will need for the day, plus they get to select a new golf hat/visor and golf glove from a table. All items are donated by the Lady Niners. Students’ green fees and lunch are paid for by QC Lady Niners.
At the end of the tournament the QC Lady Niners host an Awards/Luncheon (hamburgers, hot dogs, salad, chocolate chip cookies, etc.). Awards are given for the four top teams, trophies for the students. Each student receives a certificate of participation at their decorated tables. It is fun to watch the students hang out at the large result sheet on the wall checking out the results and discussing their golf game.
