The week of July 4, 2014, Quail Creek held events which benefited the Green Valley MOAA’s (Military Officers Association of America) Military Assistance Food for Families charity. This charity donates nonperishable food items and Commissary gift cards to the Tucson National Guard for distribution to the needy families of the Guard and service members who are deployed.

On June 30 The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) held their annual summer luncheon; this year it was a Luau. All the ladies were dressed in their colorful Hawaiian clothing and were presented with a lei and they all looked ready for the islands. Peggy McGee, president of TWOQC, asked her members to bring nonperishable items or monetary donations to the luncheon to be donated to the GV MOAA Charity. This is the sixth year in a row that the TWOQC has supported this Food for Families initiative. The Women of Quail Creek collected and donated $90 and 28 lbs. of food items and $6,198 in discount coupons.

The Quail Creek Lady Putters held a 50/50 raffle putting contest on July 4 which included the Lady Putters and their guests. They had a total of 82 participants all dressed in their red, white and blue for the fourth of July. There was a mystery hole winner who split the 50/50 proceeds with the MOAA Charity. The mystery hole winner was Sylvia Forehand for her hole-in-one on the 13th hole. Diane Dee Waggoner, president of the Lady Putters, presented Lieutenant Colonel John McGee, president of the Green Valley MOAA Chapter, the proceeds of the raffle ($41) for their Military Assistance Food for Families charity.

The Green Valley MOAA Chapter set up a food donation collection station for the residents of Quail Creek in the Madera Clubhouse from July 4 until July 6. This collection station was also for the Food for Families charity. The residents of Quail Creek donated a total of $205 to help purchase Commissary Food Cards and 190 lbs. of food items.

The nearly 200 lbs. of food items and $500 worth of Commissary gift cards along with the 6,198 dollars of coupons were delivered to Barb Gavre, Tucson Airman and Family Readiness Director, Chaplain Nathan Mestler and Airman First Class Amber Tellez on July 10, 2014.

Chaplain Mestler thanked us for the donations and appreciated the fact that our donations were kept local to help these military families.

The Green Valley Chapter of MOAA would like to thank the organizations and residents of Quail Creek for their continued support of their Military Assistance and Food for Families program. The Green Valley MOAA Military Assistance program not only donates food and financial support to the needy families of the Tucson National Guard but the charity has grown and expanded. Thanks to the continuous and generous support of the residents and committees of Quail Creek, the charity is also able to support a number of other programs that assist local deserving military families, their children, homeless veterans and occasionally the wounded warriors.

Thank You Quail Creek.
