Forbes.com released its annual ranking of the 25 Best Places to Retire in 2017 and new to the list this year is Green Valley, Arizona.

Robson Resort Communities’ homeowners at Quail Creek already know the area is a desirable place to live with scenic mountain vistas and friendly neighbors. Forbes.com citied the “collections of dozens of retirement communities” as one of the reasons Green Valley made the list. A total population of 32,000 and its 20 miles south of Tucson makes the city attractive to retirees, according to Forbes.com.

Pros listed by Forbes.com include a cost of living four percent below the national average, median home price of $157,000, adequate number of physicians per capita, very low serious crime rate and good air quality. Forbes.com also pointed out that yes, the days may be hot, but the nights are cooler thanks to the 3,000-foot elevation. Other pros mentioned were the very mild winters and good state tax climate for retirees, with no state income tax on social security benefits and no state estate/inheritance tax.

The ranking also included that Green Valley is in the middle of the Milken Institute’s ranking of Best Places for Successful Aging.
