Green Valley Fire District Is Now the Santa Rita Fire District

Daryl Laux

On July 1, 2024, following the annexation of a large portion of the Town of Sahuarita, the Green Valley Fire District elected to change its name to the Santa Rita Fire District to reflect the broader communities it serves.

This comes after Green Valley took over responsibility for providing services to residents in Northern Sahuarita. Rural Metro Fire was the previous department, but the number of people subscribed to their fire services dropped, so Green Valley stepped in to fill that gap.

Previously, the southern half of Sahuarita was served by Green Valley Fire, while the northern half, including areas like Rancho Sahuarita, relied on membership-based services from Rural Metro Fire.

Along with the new name, the funding mechanism will also change for Sahuarita residents. Under Rural/Metro, residents had to subscribe to a monthly membership. In contrast, Santa Rita fire services will be paid for through taxes and include every resident in the Town of Sahuarita.

What hasn’t changed are the services provided by the capable volunteers at the fire department. Santa Rita Fire Corps (SRFC) volunteers provide non-emergency support to the Santa Rita Fire District, srfdaz.gov. Thank a volunteer for the following services!
