The Photo Club of Quail Creek continued with its monthly members’ contest, with February having the topic of “Natural Beauty.” Each club member can enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject drew 32 entries with a wide variety of subjects. All of the photos can be seen on our Flickr site tinyurl.com/bdfcef9n.

Shari Rogers won first place with her photo titled Mommy & Baby Woot. Shari commented, “I love nature photography! Someone told me there were some nesting owls behind the clubhouse. I went several times and realized the babies hatched! So now it’s time to get that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Watching the lighting and getting a shot with a chick took a while, but then they posed so perfectly for me! Just another fabulous day in Quail Creek!”

Larry Hudson took second place with his photo Beautiful Dove. Larry commented, “I took this photo of a dove in Madera Canyon as the bird was struggling to get food out of a feeder. The position of the wings and the lighting on the bird brought out the colors and the details of the dove.”

John Tubbs’ photo Hummingbird on Nest came in third place. John says, “Hummingbird nests are tiny and quite hard to find. This one was found by Nick Pulcinella near Desert Meadows Park recently when he and several other Quail Creek birders spent a morning birding the park. The nest was about 12 to 15 feet up on a tree limb, so my 100-400 mm zoom lens was helpful in getting a closeup shot. I hope to get back later and find young hummingbirds and get some shots of them.”

The Photography Club of Quail Creek has a monthly photo contest for its members and schedules numerous photo field trips for members throughout the year. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Kino Conference Center, Mesquite Room. Room venue could vary each month. Consult the club’s constantly updated website www.pcqc.org, as well as the weekday HOA What’s Happening for additional information.
