Democratic Club Social Events in October

Dorothy and Jerry Stoops enjoyed meeting Kamala and Tim at Oktoberfest!

Lois Connell and Alphie Smith

Oktoberfest, Oct. 19

The Oktoberfest celebration was held at the home of Jeanne Buell and Dennis Desmond. The barbeque was attended by more than 50 people from Quail Creek and the Greater Green Valley/Sahuarita area.

Gregg Frostrom, Democratic candidate for the Arizona House of Representatives, attended with his wife Caroline.

The fest was strictly a social event. While politics were discussed, there was also sharing of books, travels, sports, family, and other fun topics. Participants had the opportunity to have their pictures taken with cardboard likenesses of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Women In Blue Luncheon, Oct. 24

The luncheon was held at the home of Lois Connell. As is typical of these gatherings, more than 50 women from Quail Creek and the broader local area attended.

Carol Smith, president of the Democratic Club of Quail Creek (DCQC), presented updates on the recently created memorial in the name of Janet Connell. The memorial focuses on recognizing a woman who is a member of DCQC or the Green Valley Democrats and who has served consistently in supporting Democratic ideals locally and beyond. Participants were encouraged to submit their nominations to Carol by Nov. 15.

Jeanne Buell, first vice chair of the LD19 Democrats, briefed us on the activities by the legislative district leading up to the election and plans for further action in 2025. Numerous events are planned. Jeanne provided dates, times, and locations.

The main speaker was Vivian Harte, former president of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters and currently serving as second chair of the Pima County Democratic Party. Vivian has a master’s degree in sociology and has taught at the college level for 14 years. She is an inspired speaker as well as an author. Her presentation centered on the key ideas in her book, The 80-Year Cycle of Transformation: Why Liberals Are Winning. She shared handouts with helpful details from the book. Her goal was to make participants feel lighter and more optimistic, and she succeeded!

The next luncheon will be held on Dec. 5 at the home of Carol Smith. As plans are finalized, details will be available on the DCQC website at dcqc.page or search for Democratic Club of Quail Creek.
