Women In Blue
On March 28 women in the Democratic Club of Quail Creek (DCQC) participated in the Women In Blue luncheon, which was attended by 27 women and held in the home of Lois Connell. The group allows like-minded women to gather in a neutral setting. The guest speaker was Bart Smith, a Presbyterian minister and Donor Engagement manager for Habitat for Humanity in Tucson. Most of the luncheon participants had volunteered for Habitat projects.
Bart reminded the participants that Jimmy Carter was not the founder of Habitat, but his very public support of and participation in the organization was instrumental in bringing it to national attention. Bart outlined the requirements for applicants to be approved for help. These included a background check and specified number of hours volunteering with Habitat, called “sweat equity.” Currently, there are no building projects in Green Valley. Instead, Habitat provides repairs to the homes of qualified applicants, such as plumbing upgrades and roof repairs.
The Women In Blue luncheons are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. Check What’s Happening and the newsletter of the Democratic Club of Quail Creek for updates.
DCQC meets the third Saturday of each month at the Kino Center at 3 p.m. All residents of Quail Creek are welcome to attend.
