Denny Huber won first place in the Photography Club’s December contest with his photo Simple Plastic Cup. Members were allowed to choose any subject for this contest. Denny said he took the photo “in the simplest of situations. We were at a friend’s house for a Cinco de Mayo party, and the outdoor tables were starting to fill up when I noticed these amazing colors around and through the plastic cup, so I took the shot with my iPhone.” iPhone 13, 5.1 mm, f/1.6, 1/400 sec, ISO 50.
Bruce Hartsell won second place with Lily, which he captured on a recent trip to Napa. He said he “was surprised to find some spring flowers blooming in late December, and this flower was a bright spot on an overcast, rainy day. Fortunately for my camera, the rain was intermittent, and I was able to capture the image without getting the camera wet.” Nikon D7500, 22 mm, f/4.5, 1/80 sec, ISO 100.
John Tubbs won third place with Crested Caracara. John said, “This species is one of my favorite birds. The shot was taken during a Raptor Free Flight show at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. I picked a place where I would have good light and no distracting background if a bird landed on a particular snag. This bird did, and the shot came out good.” He said he used a high shutter speed to eliminate any hand tremors. Sony alpha 1, 271 mm, f/8, 1800 sec, ISO 1600.
The Photography Club of Quail Creek holds a photo contest each month, and outside judges select the winners. Additional information is available at www.pcqc.org.
