House Party for Kirsten Engel

On Aug. 11 Kathie and John Murphy hosted a house party and fundraiser for Kirsten Engel, candidate for U.S. Congress in Congressional District 6. Ms. Engel was accompanied by Congressman Ted Lieu of California who is co-chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives. Congressman Lieu’s presence reflects the high regard for Kirsten that extends beyond Arizona.

Ms. Engel spoke to the issues that are strong on her radar. These include combating drought, dealing with energy concerns by encouraging green jobs, and addressing challenges in both medical and mental healthcare, including the right of women to make their own reproductive decisions.

Ms Engel and Congressman Lieu answered questions from participants about a variety of topics and issues. Their participation in this gathering reflects their respect for the grassroots voters.

Women In Blue Luncheon

On Aug. 22 women in the Democratic Club of Quail Creek (DCQC) participated in the Women In Blue Luncheon held at El Patio restaurant in Sahuarita. The group allows like-minded women to gather in a neutral setting. There was no speaker, so participants enjoyed a social gathering.

The next luncheon will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11:30 a.m. It will be in a private home at 1486 E. Dahlia Drive in Quail Creek. Lunch will be a variety of Asian dishes, including vegetarian options. Dessert, water, and iced tea are included. The cost is $30 cash or check payable to DCQC.
