Courtney’s Courage Wins Hearts of TWOQC
Peggy McGee
Since its inception, The Women of Quail Creek’s (TWOQC) Community Outreach Committee has focused on in-kind donations. Over the years, the group has helped victims of domestic abuse, provided supplies for low-income seniors, hosted teacher showers, book drives for various schools, and collected items for summer camp programs. But with the end of TWOQC’s Funding and Giving Committee, the group had the challenge of deciding whether they wanted to pursue more traditional fundraising, but they didn’t want to sponsor a fashion show or concert.
After considerable research, they decided they wanted to support Courtney’s Courage, a 501(c)(3) charity based in Tucson that provides services and support to children with terminal cancer as well as their families. All of the children must be being treated at the Banner Hospital’s Diamond Children’s Center in Tucson. However, TWOQC’s policy has been to support local charities, and the committee doesn’t consider Tucson local. With further research, they learned that there are 10 children in the Green Valley/Sahuarita area who are served by Courtney’s Courage. When the founder of Courtney’s Courage agreed to direct monies raised by TWOQC to these families as well as to pediatric cancer research, the committee decided to proceed with fundraising efforts. Their efforts will definitely be supporting families in the local area.
As many of the committee members are mothers themselves, the thought of having a child with terminal cancer was something that really tugged at their heartstrings. They decided to see what they could do to help this worthwhile charity. Right now, the Outreach Committee members are selling Jim Click raffle tickets. All proceeds from ticket sales will stay with TWOQC to use to support Courtney’s Courage. The prizes are a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe plug-in hybrid, two first-class round trip tickets to anywhere in the world that commercial airlines fly, or $5,000 cash. The tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. If you wish to buy a ticket or, hopefully, more than one, please contact Peggy McGee at [email protected]. The drawing will be held on Dec. 12, 2024.
Courtney’s Courage can also use gift cards, especially for gasoline. With today’s gas prices, families having to drive to Banner Hospital to visit their children every day can put a strain on the family budget. They can also use gift cards for some of the fast-food restaurants as well as to grocery stores. Even a $10 or $15 gift card would definitely help the families during this stressful time. If you can help, please drop gift cards in the box at 1908 East Longspur Place.
The group is looking into having some kind of fun-filled fundraiser later in the fall to further support Courtney’s Courage.
Thank you for your generous support for this worthy cause. For more information on Courtney’s Courage, please go to courtneyscourage.org.
