The Photography Club of Quail Creek recently announced the winners of the April photography contest, focused on the subject of “Trees and Bushes.”
Sheri Rogers won first place with her image of quaking aspens in Colorado. Sheri said, “Walking through the forest, the light looked just right to show their lovely ‘quaking’ leaves. I was so happy with the way the picture turned out, as it looks just like it was … on that sunny day.” Sheri took the image with a Nikon D500, 18 mm lens, aperture f/7.1, shutter 1/160 second, ISO 100, and no flash.
Janet Wegner won second place with her image of a tree at the Grand Canyon growing in a cleft in the rocks, which she spotted while on a bus tour with friends. Janet said, “We thought it was pretty cool to be growing between the rocks. We felt like the tree was playing peek-a-boo.” She took the photo with a Samsung SM-S908U, 27.2 mm lens, f/4.9, 1/800 second, ISO 40, and no flash.
Denny Huber, who won third place, said he was “on Mount Lemmon taking pictures of rock faces for the Black and White Quarterly Challenge, but this rock face had a nice dead tree on the top, and I wondered if it would eventually fall down onto the road.” He said he did little processing “except to crop the photo so that the tree was obeying the rule of thirds.” Denny captured the image with a Canon EOS 90D, 24 mm lens, f/25, 1/60 second, ISO 160, and no flash.
