A presentation on Apache/O’odham Conflicts will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Madera Clubhouse Crystal Ballroom. The guest speaker is Craig Reid, San Xavier Docent.
This presentation looks at evidence of the conflicts the O’odham had with Apaches between the 1698 Easter Morning Battle and the Camp Grant Massacre in 1871. Written reports from Spanish officials, including Father Kino, documented the 1698 battle. The Camp Grant Massacre was a national news event that even caused the President of the United States to become involved in the investigation. These battles had dramatic impacts on O’odham relations with Spanish, Mexican and American settlers in the southern Arizona area. New evidence uncovered by local archeologists will be included in the presentation.
This event is FREE and open to the public; everyone is welcome. A question and answer session will follow. This presentation is scheduled to be 60 minutes.
