AARP Seeks Volunteer Tax Preparers

Peggy McGee

The AARP Tax-Aide program is once again looking for volunteers who are interested in preparing income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 for local area residents. The service offers free tax preparation on Wednesdays and Fridays at the La Posada campus starting on Feb. 4 and running through April 15. Hours are 8:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Volunteers can choose to work one or two days per week.

Tax preparation experience is not required, but one must be comfortable using a computer. This year, the mandatory five-day in-person training will be offered in Tucson, with classes on Nov. 17, Dec. 11, and Jan. 6, 8, and 9. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. To be certified by the IRS, individuals must pass two IRS open-book tests with a score of 80% or higher. New tax preparers will initially be paired with experienced preparers until they are comfortable working alone with clients.
